TOMMY GABEL - DREI WEITERE SOLO-SHOWS IM APRIL
Es ist wieder soweit und Tommy Gabel wandert erneut, nur mit Akustikgitarre bewaffnet, auf Solo-Pfaden. Der musikalische Bezug zu seiner Haupt- und Herzensband Against-Me! sorgt dafür, dass Tommy Gabel nicht in die Singer/Songwriter-Schmalz-Ecke abdriftet, sondern seine meist politisch gefärbten Lieder wütend, schreiend, protestierend und stets voll authentischer Innbrunst vorträgt. Im April kommt er für drei Solo-Shows nach Deutschland.
Auf Tour wird Tommy Gabel von Dave Hause, dem Frontmann der "The Loved Ones" unterstützt. Der Vorverkauf hat bereits begonnen.

Die lauteste Band New Yorks ist zurück! MONSTER BASH 2012 - REFUSED ALS HEADLINER BESTÄTIGT
Ohne zu übertreiben kann man das wohl eine kleine Sensation nennen. Jahrelang gab es immer mal wieder Gerüchte um eine Wiedervereinigung der Hardcore-Punk Legende. Dieses Jahr ist es nun wirklich passiert: REFUSED sind als Headliner des MONSTER BASH 2012 bestätigt. Fast 14 Jahre nach dem die Band sich im Oktober 1998 aufgelöst hat werden Dennis Lyxzén, Kristofer Steen, Jon Brännström und David Sandström die Träume so mancher Fans wahr werden lassen und die Columbiahalle am 27. April 2012 in einen Hexenkessel verwandeln.

SNOW PATROL - VIER ZUSATZKONZERTE IM SOMMER
Spätestens seit ihrem Album "Eyes Open" aus dem Jahr 2008 und der Übersingle "Chasing Cars", dem Nachfolge-Album "A Hundred Million Suns" sowie den Hits "Crack The Shutters" und "Take Back The City" gehören SNOW PATROL zu den erfolgreichsten Bands Großbritanniens.

JAY BRANNAN - NEUE TERMINE FÜR MAI 2012

Das Multitalent gehört zu den wenigen Ausnahmen, die sich sowohl im Film- als auch im Musikbusiness erfolgreich etabliert haben und hat es außerdem geschafft, seine beiden Leidenschaften zu verbinden. ANTI-FLAG - NEUES ALBUM IM MÄRZ UND TOUR IM APRIL 2012
2012 holen Anti-Flag zum großen Schlag aus: „The General Strike" ist nicht nur der Titel ihres neuen, für März 2012 angekündigten Albums (Sideonedummy Records / Cargo), sondern auch das Motto, mit dem das Punk-Quartett aus Pittsburgh/Pennsylvania im April mehr Power denn je in deutsche Clubs bringen wird.
Anti-Flag blicken auf das prägendste Jahr ihrer Bandgeschichte zurück, in dem die sozial und politisch engagierten Musiker weltweit neue Hoffnung schöpfen konnten. Die vom New Yorker Broadway ausgehenden Occupy-Proteste haben die neuen Songs von Frontmann Justin Sane, Chris #2, Chris Head und Drummer Pat Thetik nachdrücklich beeinflusst– von Hardcore-lastigen Ohrwürmern bis The Clash-inspirierten Polit-Hymnen weist das neue Album eine größere Abwechslung denn je auf und ist Zeugnis für die Reife der Band auf ihrem mittlerweile achten Album. Auch inhaltlich ist die Band motivierter und zielgerichteter wie nie zuvor.
"Europa und unsere Fans dort waren schon immer die größten Unterstützer von Anti-Flag", erklärt Bassist Chris #2 in Hinblick auf die Tour. "Um unseren Fans dort etwas zurückzugeben hören wir auf die Wünsche unserer Freunde und haben die Tour in sehr kleine Locations gebucht, um sicherzustellen, diese Konzerte so persönlich und in engster Fanbindung wie nur möglich zu spielen".

From a tiny top floor flat in SE Glasgow, Belfast born, Chicago-raised Jill O’Sullivan, Welshman Nick Packer and Scottish drummer Gregor Donaldson have carved themselves a unique niche in contemporary music that somehow manages to traverse and blur any number of geographic and musical boundaries with stunning effect. Formed in the autumn of 2007, the three-piece known as Sparrow and the Workshop began when Jill had a couple of songs she had written in London and was keen to try them out. The only problem was that Gregor was in, as they recall, about 17 bands. “He said 'I really don't have the time for another one',” laughs Jill.
She somehow managed to persuade him and crept in for a practice at the end of one his other bands' sessions. Jill and Gregor found a common ground in the modern-day Americana of Will Oldham and Gillian Welch. After acquiring their name (“I came up with the workshop name so I could get a deal with Drum Workshop,” says Gregor wryly) and playing a show as a duo at Glasgow's Rio Cafe, they brought in Nick on bass and electric guitar. It was then that the trio began writing and practicing the songs that have gone on to make up Sparrow's core set, which include the likes of The Gun, with it’s sparse, violent folk and the powerful but tender 'You Got It All’.
Bashing out the songs together in their practice space, the trio take Jill's “song skeletons” of simple melodies and chords and put flesh on the bones. “We do a lot of discussing,” explains Gregor, “but we don't really use other bands as references, it's a lot vaguer than that – colours, shapes, that kind of thing.”
They also sample all manner of bizarre instrumentation – these aren't your standard folk-influenced songs: Gregor's drum kit has slowly been augmented with all kinds of strange percussion, including a piece of sprung steel he's dubbed a 'crash box', which pumps out gunshot and whip sounds. Nick has hacked up his lovely Burns guitar to include a bass string, enabling him to play bass and electric guitar simultaneously. “We call it 'Bastard',” says Nick. “It's always breaking.”
Jill's voice has also developed into a powerhouse of flexibility, allowing her to soar from keening Sandy Denny-esque tones to sensual peaks you're more likely to expect from PJ Harvey. After months of hanging out with a group of boys, she's hardly a shrinking violet either. “People sometimes come up to us after gigs and say to me, 'You should get someone else to play guitar so you can stand there with the mic and sing', and I'm like, 'Fuck off'.”
They have also slowly incorporated subtle elements and moods from metal, grunge, doo-wop and country into their songs – a friend of the band recently described one new song as 'Joanna Newsom backed by Black Sabbath'.
Despite the experimentation, Sparrow are nothing if not succinct. “No matter how much work we do on a song it never seems to go over four minutes,” reveals Jill. “We have very short attention spans. The songs always seem to be three minutes and eight seconds long!”
They have begun developing their beguiling stage presence while touring the country in Gregor's dad's camper van – unfortunately for the drummer, he is the only member of the band who can drive – and were recently snapped up by Distiller Records, one of many to pick up on their unique talents.
Music, however, isn't their only talent. “I accidentally won third place at the 2008 World Stone Skimming Championships. It's on Easdale, near Oban; it's this beautiful little island with all these quarries. This stone I threw just kept skimming – they gave me an extra large T-shirt as a prize, so I don't know what the women who normally enter are built like...”
Apart from sports (and Gregor is the real athlete in the band, or tri-athlete to be precise), they also have interesting backgrounds. Guitarist Nick is related to a cannibal. His aunt, a genealogist, recently discovered that one of his family's distant relations is Alferd Packer, an American who escorted a group of prospectors across the treacherous Rocky Mountains but allegedly butchered the party for food on the way. Let's hope Sparrow don't get stranded on the Pennines any time soon.
Since being signed to Distiller Records, Sparrow and the Workshop have released two EP’s. Their debut, 'Sleight Of Hand', features songs like ‘Devil Song’, and the recent mini-album 'Into The Wild' has showcased a bunch of more mature tracks, such as ‘Jealous Of Your Heart’ and ‘Swam Like Sharks’. They have received much critical acclaim from the UK media, including The Guardian, The Sunday Times and Uncut magazine. They have also received considerable radio play and have performed various radio sessions for Marc Riley (6music), and Vic Galloway (Radio One). They were also Radcliffe and Maconie’s Pick of the Week on Radio 2 and recently recorded a Maida Vale session for Rob Da Bank (Radio One).
Their debut album 'Crystals Fall' was recently released, with a mix of their best tracks from their previous releases and some stunning new songs, such as the psychedelic epic (well, for them – it's four minutes long, after all) 'Crystals', which has recently become their customary set-closer. More psychedelic and acid-y than their previous work, the track is perhaps their best yet, and a sign that Sparrow can literally do whatever they want in the future.
Ok, so they use acoustic instruments rather than MiniKorgs, but don't call them retro. “We're always being told we have an old sound that’s not from this decade, or even the last three decades,” says Jill, “but when we go into practice that doesn't occur to us. It's really weird that suddenly that's what some other people hear – it's just funny because I don't think we mean to, we're probably trying to be really modern!”
There is something gloriously new about the way Sparrow flit from the most delicate of Americana ditties to crashing post-rock crescendos at the drop of a hat. They might be folk, but there's certainly nothing traditional about this band.
